Get Stuffed!

This one is a big hit every time and it’s SIMPLE and CHEAP! Roasted Capsicum stuffed with Cous Cous!

So basically for the uninitiated, it is capsicum, roasted and then stuffed with cous cous.

This dish makes you look like you can cook and you really can’t fail other than burning the capsicum.

The basics is, you cook the cous cous, which costs around about $1.50 for a packet. You only need 4 cups and then cook it, which takes water and 5 mins.

Then you slice the head of your capsicum suff the capsicum with the cooked cous cous, place in a roasting tray with some oil then pop in the oven for 20mins at 200 degrees.

See how simple and cheap this is?

You can add things like feta or left over vegies that are chopped up to your cous cous mixture but basically 6 stuffed capsicums will cost you about $4.

If you really need a recipe for this one, here it is

Bruschetta

Yep, easy, tasty and damn cheap.

Bruschetta is a fancy way of saying stale tosted bread with tomato & basil.

Yes that’s all it is.

Imagine

You have invited a hot girl over for dinner. One, you don’t have any money & two you don’t really know how to cook. Well, this tasty treat costs next to nothing but she will love you for not only treating her taste buds but saving her waistline as well. Healthy and cheap, what more do you want?

Don’t throw out that stale bread, next time, invite a girl over & make her Bruschetta

Remember though…. This is just an entree you MUST cook another course.

You will find the actual recipe here

Pasta Aglio e Olio

Total cost of cooking for 4 is around $2.50 without cheese

I found out about this little gem when I was working as a continuity supervisor on a feature film called Offside. In one scene, one of the soccer players makes pasta Aglio e Olio. When I first read this in the script, I just assumed it was one of those italian dishes that takes time and loving care to make, along with many ingredients. When it came time to filming the scene, I was shocked with how simple and easy this delicious meal is to make.

The basic cost is a packet of pasta, oil and garlic. If you want to go a bit fancy and really follow the recipe then the other cost is parsley and chilli flakes and you can splurge and get some parmesan cheese to top it off
Seriously, it is that easy.

As I am not a recipe writer, in every blog I will link to an online recipe. Here is your link and I look forward to bringing you another little gem very soon.

In the Beginning

In the beginning

When I was at Uni all I ate was baked beans, spaghetti and tuna morney. I was never shown how to make really cheap tasty food. This is where I come in now. First, I need you to understand that I am not a great cook and i’m not a fan of spending hours in the kitchen so don’t expect me to help you make the best tasting goat curry of all time. I am however a big fan of cheap, tasty and quick cooking. My goal here is to help one uni student impress his or her future girlfriend whilst saving money for your beer drinking escapades. Though this blog is aimed at uni students, I think it will work well for anyone who has just left home and isn’t used to fending for themselves. Don’t be ashamed, we have all been there before. My goal is for you to be able to impress without too much effort and money. So… here we go. I was never shown how to make really cheap tasty food. This is where I come in now.
